What Mama Learned Last Week: On Selfies and Intentionality

Motherhood is full of lessons and sometimes, I’m open to learning them. Here’s what I picked up last week in this week’s edition of  What Mama Learned.

Value intentionality.

My first lesson from last week is really advice to you: be intentional in what you do. Stop letting your circumstances dictate your behavior. Instead, choose how you want to live, choose what you want from life, set your attention on your goals and do something. Living with intentionality and purpose has been the missing piece in this life-puzzle I’ve been building in recent months. If you can say the same, join me in this very necessary turn around. Determine what needs to be done, decide to do it, then do it.

Selfies aren’t so bad.

That doesn’t mean I’ll be taking more of them, though. I’ve been a staunch avoider of selfies since they first emerged and I prefer taking pictures of my family or with my family. Posting pictures of me alone just makes me a bit uncomfortable. At any rate, I joined the #CourageToEarn #ExposeYouselfChallenge on Friday and it wasn’t so bad. Take a look at my very first selfie. Now, I can cross that off my bucket list.

I’m Anitra and this is my VERY FIRST SELFIE ever. I never would have posted it, except I heard @brandijeter’s virtual voice saying #exposeyourself, so here I am! I’d rather be posting pictures of my 2 kids & their dad, who I’ve been married to for 21.5 years. Their hearts are my happiest place. I’m also happy hanging out in the social space where I’ve been posting and sharing since my first tweet way back in 2007. I’ve been blogging for moms at TheMamaZone.com since 2009, and my focus there is making mama’s life easier because I really like easy. I love my home on the web and I work hard there–creating the content, taking the photos, designing all of the graphics, managing the website and serving as my own virtual assistant, advertising rep and PR person. (Whew, that’s a lot!) I enjoy writing and teaching and I’m really good at both. I’m also really good at knowing when a post is getting too long, so if you’d like to know more, pop over to the blog and check out my “About” page (I’m really quite proud of it!). But before you go, take the @couragetoearn challenge to #exposeyourself. I’d love to get to know you!

You gotta have friends.

More about this next week, but I had an AMAZING spring break visiting with my friends in North Carolina. I miss them and I miss the me I am when I’m with them. So, we’re being very intentional about getting back to them. And if you’re one of “them” and you’re reading, know I LOVE YOU!!

And that concludes another week. I’d love to hear what you’ve learned, so let’s chat about it in the comments below!
