I hate cleaning.
There, I said it. I know you cleaning-lovers are resisting the urge to scoff at me, but the truth had to come out. I am a messie. I don’t like things messy, but I am not a natural cleaner. It takes a lot of mental preparation to get me up and cleaning each day and it makes absolutely no sense that I’ve chosen homemaking as my life’s work!
But, I do what I have to do (eventually!). I’ve learned that I have to suck it up and clean because if mama doesn’t do it, it’s not likely to get done. If you can relate, I’d love to hear how you overcome your cleaning phobia and get the job done. I have to attack it with a carefully crafted plan. My solution? THE BOX.
Did you see the flash of light and hear the angels singing “aaahhh” when I mentioned it? It is my holy grail when it comes to cleaning. It contains every cleaning task I need to complete—separated by day, week and month. It’s an absolute must-have for me to keep myself focused on getting the job done, and when I listen to it (yes, I often ignore it), I love the results. I originally heard about it in a book about Sidetracked Home Executives. I’ve adapted it to fit our family’s needs, and I use it to keep track of all my cleaning tasks.
I have a good friend who thinks it’s hilarious that I need this. She’s a cleanie, so the ways of the messie are foreign to her. The things my box reminds me to do are automatic and ingrained in her routine. I can only dream of cleaning so effortlessly—we’re both whistling while we work, but I can tell you there’s no way we’re whistling the same tune!
How about you? I know some of you can relate. Aren’t you happy that you’re not alone? You’re not the only one who’d rather do absolutely anything else other than clean, and aren’t you glad we have each other? I sure am, but I’m also glad I have friends who can’t relate to my cleaning disability. I have no trouble celebrating them (especially since I was raised by a cleanie). They have so much to teach those of us who aren’t gifted cleaners.
I’m nudging those friends to pursue Pine-Sol’s “Deep Clean Diva” crown. They’re searching for someone who takes deep-clean to a whole new level (and it is not me). If you know someone (or if you are that someone), all the details are on their Facebook page. The rest of you can follow #CleaningWithMama for the next week or two as I tweet out some spring cleaning tasks to help us get the job done. I’ve set up a Pinterest board too, and I’ll keep the tips coming along with pictures! I’d love to hear which side of the cleaning fence you stand on, so tweet or comment and let me know.
