We did it.
We spent a full day searching for a last minute, all-inclusive international vacation and we found it.
And, when I say last minute, I mean it’s Wednesday and we want to leave on Friday. I know, I know, it was a ridiculous idea, but we laugh in the face of ridiculous (bwah ha ha ha). It turned out to be the perfect way to take a vacation without spending a lot of money. Here are some of the highlights from our visit.
After my tedious, full-day Expedia search, we decided on San Jose Del Cabo. We later discovered that it is the milder side of Los Cabos, with Cabo San Lucas boasting all things wild. All I knew is that we needed an all-inclusive resort near the water. The goal was to find a piece of paradise for pennies and we scored.
We stayed at the Barceló Grand Faro Los Cabos Hotel (although I REALLY wanted to stay at the Hyatt Ziva!!). It’s a nice all-inclusive property that could really be awesome with some love from the owners.
The hotel sits just off the beach and has 4 pools, 5 restaurants, 3 bars. There’s a 180 foot lighthouse on the property and one of the bars is hiding in the top.
While the rooms weren’t amazing, the pool area definitely was. We spent the bulk of our time poolside or walking along the beach, enjoying the beautiful Sea of Cortes.
Did I mention it was all-inclusive? That was definitely a major plus (“Drinks, anyone?”). I hadn’t relaxed that much in a very long time. It was much needed and well-deserved.
And of course, we did some shopping. We hopped on the Urbano and headed downtown where we discovered Misión de San José del Cabo Anuiti, the church pictured above.
Downtown is quiet and quaint and free of any hustle or bustle (except the merchants beckoning you in!). It was a neat place to relax and full of hidden backdrops for great pictures.
We toured a bit in Los Cabos and took a horseback ride through the desert there. We ended our fun with a ride on the beach and we’re still trying to decide which ride we enjoyed the most.
All in all, it was a fantastic vacation and the perfect couples getaway for my husband and me. I should mention though, that we were completely hustled in the Los Cabos airport! We thought we were signing up for a “tour” of a new property and ended up trapped in a dreadful timeshare presentation!! Fortunately, we walked away with a few “free” activities, but someone really should do something about their bait and switch tactic (you’ve been warned).
And, there you have it. This sure won’t be our last last-minute trip or our last time in Cabo. Have you been? I’d love to hear about it!! If you’d like to see more pictures, I posted some using Parade. Happy travels…
