What Mama Learned Last Week: On Christmas Carols and Customer Service

Motherhood is full of lessons and sometimes, I’m open to learning them. Here’s what I picked up last week in the newest edition of  What Mama Learned.

I love Christmas and usually, by now, my house looks like the Griswolds have moved in. This year, I’m having a little trouble getting into the game. I just realized I’m running out of time, so I’m committed to making this house look like Christmas this week. I finally got our Christmas countdown up–our mantle is covered in Izze for a special countdown the kids and I will be sharing with our neighbors. More on that soon!

When you’re stranded on the side of the road, Christmas carols help.

Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters had just finished counting the 12 days when I heard that fateful thud. I’m certain I would have been fuming or in tears if Stevie hadn’t been in the background listing all the things Christmas means and by the time Holly Jolly Christmas started, AAA was on the way.

And, while I did eventually let the water works flow a bit, it was really hard to do while those Christmas songs were playing. Did I mention I needed to get the Christmas season up and running around here? That Christmas cheer effect is one reason why.

The side of the road is a great place to blog.

You learn a lot about a company when they fail you

We just returned from our first cruise ever and the last cruise we’ll ever take on Carnival Cruise lines. The whole cruise felt a little off, but we were willing to overlook the less than stellar service and the bad food and thought we’d give them a second chance. That is, until they lost our luggage. We’re still waiting for it to arrive and we’re also waiting for them to REALLY take responsibility and offer us some form of compensation for our trouble. Instead, they’ve treated this as if it’s no big deal and have not really gone out of their way to make it right. I think it’s sad when companies miss the boat like this. I’m considering whether I’ll invest time in writing a full post but most likely, I won’t dedicate any more space of my blog to their business.
