The MamaZone: DIY Minion Socks & Pillowcases

Do you know what you do the week Minions is released on Blu-Ray and DVD? You run to Target to pick up the Deluxe Edition Metal Pack and make plans for a family movie night! And, while you’re at Target, you pick up snacks and some supplies to make your very own minion themed socks and pillow cases. At least that’s what we did last week and I’m thrilled to share this easy to follow minion craft tutorial with you.

Make Your Own Minion Socks and Minion Pillowcases

We had so much fun with this and both minion crafts are very easy to do. The hardest part will literally be waiting until everything dries! We opted to start with white socks and pillowcases, which we dyed to the perfect shade of yellow. If you find what you need in yellow, you can eliminate that step. By the way, we picked up Champion socks and Room Essentials pillowcases while we were at Target.

Instructions for Making Minion Socks

A note about the socks: I started with a pack of white men’s socks. This way, I could be sure they would fit all four of us.

  1. If you’re starting with white socks, follow the directions on your fabric dye and dye your socks (throw the pillow cases in if you’ll be making those too). I used the whole bottle for 4 pairs of men socks and 2 white pillowcases.

The MamaZone: DIY Minion Socks

  1. Print this minion sock template onto card stock and cut out the pieces you’ll use for your socks.
  2. Use chalk or fabric markers to trace your stencil patterns onto the felt. If you use a marker, place the felt with the marker-side down when you glue.
  3. Cut your felt pieces. Note: for straighter cuts on your felt, staple the card stock stencil to the felt before cutting. Remove the staples carefully and there will be no visible holes.
  4. Use the felt pieces and fabric markers or paint to design your socks. I opted to use mostly felt, dad used a combination and the kids went felt-free and painted with 3D fabric paint.
  5. Drying times for your paint and adhesive will vary, but once your socks are dry, put them on and re-glue as necessary since the socks will stretch and your pieces might move.

DIY Minion Pillowcase Tutorial

Minion Pillowcase Supplies:

  • White Pillowcase
  • Yellow Fabric Dye
  • 2 Pieces Each of Blue, Grey and Black Felt
  • 1 Piece Each of White and Yellow Felt
  • Fabric Glue or Adhesive (be sure it’s washable)
  • Scissors

Instructions for Making Minion Pillowcases

  1. Print your pillowcase templateThere are 2 to choose from.
  2. Follow steps 3 and 4 above to make your felt pieces.
  3. For the larger pillow case, simply adhere your felt as pictured above.
  4. For the smaller pillow case, we used an old sofa pillow. Tuck the open edges of the pillow case inside and adhere with fabric glue, if you’d like to make it permanent. Adhere your felt and enjoy.

I’m not sure if we had more fun making our minion socks and pillows or watching the movie again together. Either way, I wish your family the same amount of enjoyment!

Remember that Target is the perfect one stop shop for all your movie night needs and it’s the only place to find the Minions movie in the special Metal Pack. Plus, the DVD includes bonus party planning ideas and 40 minutes of exclusive content you won’t find anywhere else. You’ll also find clever Minions licensed products like the fancy goggles we’re wearing. Check out more pictures of our minion fun on Facebook. Do you have some clever Minions movie night ideas?
