Teaching kids how to care about others has been a bit of a theme this week at The MamaZone. First, we shared our experience with Members Unite, and now, we’re “couponing for good” with All You Magazine in their Champions for Kids Campaign.
This has been a remarkable opportunity to remind my kids about spending wisely, caring for others and being grateful for what they have. The kids were actively involved in the planning, couponing and shopping for this campaign (although there times they were easily distracted!).
And, while I’m usually couponing for this kid and his big sis…
…we planned this adventure for the kids at the Youth Life Foundation of the Triangle.
We know it as the “Life Center,” and we’re connected to it’s efforts through our church. They’re doing an amazing job supporting the children of the Cornwallis Community in Durham, North Carolina and I chose it because of their mission to “to benefit the lives of children and families living in low-income environments through daily after school academic programs, teen leadership clubs, and parental guidance programs.”
After a couple of trips down the aisles of Walmart, we decided it would be a good idea to donate cleaning supplies. I wanted our contribution to be practical, and found out this would definitely be something they could use. We grabbed coupons from our stash, online, and of course, from the pages of All You. This month’s issue had $78.74 worth of coupons alone and I looked through my issues for the last four months to grab some more.
The coupons saved us about 25% or our total purchase and we found several markdown items that were 50-93% off. You can see all the details of our shopping trip in my Google+ album here and discover more about the organization we’re supporting on their website and in an update coming in the next few weeks. Until then, the kids and I want to remind you to save as much as you can and use that savings to help others as well.
